Class of 2023 dual threat quarterback Malachi Singleton is an absolute load for any defense in the GMSAA to defend. In a game against Hillgrove last season, Singleton went off for eight touchdowns. Five passing and three rushing scores highlighted a career best day. Described by many as big, strong, and dominant, the 6″1, 203lb signal caller has the skills needed to bulldoze his way down the field. Singleton possesses a strong arm and toughness and durability needed to run downhill meeting contact head on. Malachi is the younger brother of Georgia State commit Christian Singleton, one of the top running backs in the state of Georgia.
Malachi led North Cobb 8th grade to the GMSAA playoffs as a 7th grader last season playing up as QB1. Not only was he ready physically, but his knowledge and football IQ forced his coach’s hand to get him on the field right away. “We had a good season,” said Singleton. “In the game against Pebblebrook I threw 4 touchdowns. There was a play on 4th down where I had to escape the pocket. Someone was grabbing me so I just had to throw it, and we caught it and scored. That was my favorite play last season.”
Malachi’s father has been coaching him for a long time and he insists it’s more than his physical gifts that help him standout. “His best trait is that he listens. With this type of talent he has it’s very easy to do your own thing, but the best gift is his ability to be coached. We try to surround him with the best knowledge in the game so he can soak up everything he can. When he listens, he tries to apply everything he learns right away. Combined with his work ethic he has the top two traits needed to be a leader.” explained his father.
“We want to win the GMSAA and B2C championship. As a player, I just want to get better with the accuracy on my throws. I want to be the best player in the state,” explained Singleton. “I’m definitely better than last season. I’m working on my mechanics all the time.” Singleton has been working out this summer with the high school varsity team to gain additional cardio and experience. The varsity conditioning in the morning is paying off at practice with his 8th grade team in the evening.
“Singleton is special. The first thing you notice is his size. He is legit BIG. Then he wows you with his arm talent. As long as he keeps working he has all the ability to become a top high school prospect down the road. I’m not talking about top 100, he will be top 5.” So says Alex Benson of Born To Compete.
