At 6″3, 267lbs Griffin Scroggs is an elite offensive lineman in the class of 2022 for the Buford Wolves. He has it all working for him at the guard position: intelligence, strength, and the physical toughness needed to succeed at the high school level. Scroggs was recognized as the Born to Compete Offensive Lineman of the Year after an outstanding season in 2017 with the Buford 8th grade team.
“I love the offensive line because it requires a lot of thinking. I’m really good at thinking. You need fast reflexes and the ability to diagnose a defense,” Scroggs said. “My strength and hands are some of my biggest skillsets so it’s always been a position I love.”
Scroggs put together a stellar season for a talented Buford 8th grade team. The Wolves finished the regular season undefeated before falling in the championship game against Brookwood. Scroggs put his team in a positon to win it all that day, though. “Against Brookwood in the championship, I delivered a big block that led to a touchdown on a trap right run. It was up against a really big dude so I went low and took him out to set up a huge hole for the score”, Scroggs explained. Brookwood later rallied for the game-winning touchdown, 22-20. Scroggs and the Wolves use this as motivation heading to high school in the fall. Buford is one of the winningest programs in state history so he knows what will be expected of him moving forward.
Scroggs gained experience competing against the best defensive linemen in the country this past December. He won the FBU National Championship with the 8th grade GFL team over Dade County. “It was a great experience to meet people from different areas and compete against the best athletes all over the country”, Scroggs explained. Scroggs and the offensive line led the way to a national title.
“I train with Bo Mitchell and Tony Jones as much as I can get to improve my game,” said Scroggs. “I want to improve my technique on the offensive line. I’m good at what I do but I want to get quicker moving off the ball. My goal is to play JV next year to keep improving and get ready for varsity”, Scroggs explained.
In addition to being a football standout, Scroggs is a great lacrosse player for the Wolves. As Alex from Born To Compete says “Griffin has a chance to be the next Harry Miller up at Buford”. The future is bright for Buford’s most promising lineman.
