Recently named the 2018 B2C 8th Grade Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Cedric Washington is a two-way player dominating on both sides of the ball. Washington put on a show last season for the Cedartown Middle School Bulldogs starting at running back and defensive end. Standing 6’1 weighing 192, his size and physicality is varsity ready as an eighth grader. Cedartown put together an impressive run last fall finishing undefeated after winning their county championship against Pepperell. Washington contributed a huge part to that championship run on both offense and defense.
Washington has stood toe to toe with the best athletes in the country competing in the Georgia-Florida Future Stars Game, the FBU National Tournament, and the Diamond Sports Group Youth All American Bowl in Virginia Beach. Washington was named MVP of the Diamond All American Bowl for his performance on both sides of the ball.
“I like playing defensive end first.” he added. “High school coaches told me I have a chance at starting varsity right away at defensive end”, Washington told Born to Compete. “In the championship game against Pepperrell I knocked the mouth piece of the quarterback out with a big hit”, he stated. “I love making big plays like that for my team”. Washington made plays all season recording over 60 tackles and 11 sacks for Cedartown Middle School last fall.
On offense, Washington was just as punishing to the opposition. “We ran this play called money toss right”, Washington explained. “It’s money. The quarterback tossed it to me against Rockmart and I ran it 93 yards for the touchdown. I also made a counter run often too where I’d cut back and pick up the first down when the team needed it”, he added. Washington carried Cedartown on offense rushing for over 1,200 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground.
“I need to maintain my grades. Keep grinding, keep pushing, and focusing on improving”, said Washington. “This off season I’ll be participating in the Diamond Sports Group All American Bowl and the Pro Football Hall of Fame camp. My goals are to get good grades in school, stay in the weight room, and get ready for these big dudes in front of me. I just need to keep working”, Washington told Born to Compete.
Cedric Washington is a special athlete that will develop into a superstar player over the next few years. He has the potential at defensive end to contribute and be an impact player next season. His first step off the line and ability to rush past blockers wreaks havoc in the backfield. The sky is the limit for this promising young Cedartown prospect.
